Unlocking Online Play For SPORE on Steam
Without having to purchase the game twice…
Preamble
Last year, right after landing in a new country and with barely anything to keep my then six-year-old son occupied (it would be a couple of months before we could get him into school), I picked up a copy of SPORE on Steam in the hopes that he both would be entertained and learn a thing or two at the same time.
To be fair, he did get a lot of value out of it, but I was extremely frustrated by the fact that it was impossible to get online — I wasted a lot of effort going through forums, contacting EA support, and even attempting to get a refund to justify purchasing it on a different platform, but my boy had already played over four hours and I just wasn’t prepared to shell out twice.
