This has recently become one of my favorite misconceptions: according to a number of sources I've seen (here are one or two fun articles from Dr Cory Doctorow), the Luddites were not, in fact, anti-technology. Rather, they were railing against the transfer of power from the workers to the factory owners, and the disruption of their work-life balance.
