These are all good points, but in my opinion this is just the tip of the iceberg, and the whole concept of resumes and job applications needs to be turned on its head.

In reality, the most effective way to demonstrate one's skills and cultural compatibility is to perform some real work. And get paid for it - employers tend to forget that an unemployed person's application time is far more costly to the applicant than to them.
