There's so much I feel in this article, in particular the part about laughing at vegans - animal agriculture is why we're in this mess in the first place, and we're clearly not learning.

Having said that, I feel that calling out the people behaving stupidly as idiots and assholes isn't merely unconstructive, but wrong. I recently began reading Jane McGonagall's "Reality is Broken", and while it's full of fascinating insights one stands out in particular: we've been denied real education since its industrialization, and the internet has brought us all together while exposing all the absurdities of the 20th century - nobody can really trust authority any more, but we can't function (as in “get by”, not “be healthy”) without picking a side in an epic global battle of good versus evil. Each side believes the others are the dumb ones, but that's the power of ideology and narrative, this is not a war of facts but a war of feelings. The only outcome where we aren't all losers is one in which we figure out how to protect ourselves, develop a new balance of quality of life and communicate effectively enough to make real discussions possible across narrative lines.

Gods know how we might achieve that, but every real/practical alternative leads to catastrophe on one level or another.
