The title of David Nihill's amazing Netflix special "Cultural Appreciation" (as well as the content, of course) draws a really nice, fuzzy line between "appropriation" and "appreciation" that I feel applies to any conversation on this topic. If we don't share and mix and match between cultures, we won't evolve!

I would argue that it's relatively rare for a borrowing act to be maliciously intended and assuming malicious intent without evidence doesn't do much good for anyone.
