I would argue that making bribery (in all its forms, especially lobbying and campaign contributions) illegal combined with *reducing* politicians' salaries to the minimum wage would a) make government positions unattractive to those seeking power and b) encourage politicians to do whatever they can to improve the economy for as many people as possible.
