Spoken Word: “advice”

Another Reproduction Of One Of My Pieces From Years Gone By

Once upon a time — probably early 2014 — I recited this poem on stage with the Throw Poetry Collective back when their weekly slam competition was held at the Divan Orange (I‘m still sad about it closing down). Unfortunately, that performance wasn’t recorded. Like so much of the spoken word poetry I shared there, I’ve been meaning to make it publicly available and have had the words continually rattling around in my head ever since…

It’s not the only one, and the combination of Midjourney and the OpenShot video editor have inspired me to action. Recording it at home is certainly not the same as presenting it on a stage, but perhaps one day (hopefully soon) I’ll find a way (and the time) to wedge myself into the local scene!

One thing that I’ve been intrigued by while producing these videos is YouTube’s captioning system. I don’t know what’s changed, but it’s considerably more intuitive than I remember! While providing closed captions is still a huge effort, as someone so invested in the written word I find the resulting experience extremely rewarding and definitely worthwhile.

I hope you enjoy this piece!
