One of the problems, even for the most highly skilled employees, is that as long as employers and recruiters and HR firms maintain a ridiculously high switching cost, it's practically impossible for most people to walk away from unfair and toxic workplaces and that leaves them trapped in bad places and anxious.about getting kicked out.

It's funny to me that employers demand loyalty - and we're penalized for showing "disloyalty" by leaving jobs that aren't good for us - but those same employers don't make any effort to earn the loyalty they desire by paying fair wages and making sure their employees are safe and that their needs are met.
