OBS Studio: A Free And Decent Screen Capture Experience For MacOS

This morning I ran into a deeply upsetting issue with Medium: for the second time in a week or two, I wrote out a whole lot of text in a response and then attempted to copy/paste text or hit a link in the article itself, which automatically closes the responses drawer. At which point that lengthy, thought-out text disappeared, never to return.

I’m the kind of person who always informs the service provider when there’s a problem. As a professional developer, I compulsively test to ensure that I can reproduce, and often include in my reports suggestions as to what the problem might be and what kind of user experience would be desirable. I know that that can be annoying to some people, but I also know just how much it can help anyone who actually cares about their product.

As part of the ticket, I wanted to add a screen recording to make it clear what the problem was.

QuickTime

Having had trouble with screen recording on a Macbook before, I did a little research and it looked like QuickTime was the best way forward.

I tried.

I tried again.

I tried again and again, and I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to get the screen recording working. I’ve just managed to get it…
