My wife is French Canadian, she's been telling me horror stories since I met her almost a decade ago. The slavery, the abuse, the horrors inflicted upon so many different groups and races of people by a variety of different groups and races of people, really does paint a very different picture of Canada from the squeaky clean image portrayed in political circles, the media and memes.

As a foreigner who's been exposed to some of the darker side of Canadian history, it's good to read such a well-written article and learn more details. Hopefully, these stories creeping slowly into Canada's collective consciousness will bring about some positive change and some healing.
