Javascript: yes. PHP? I'm perpetually perplexed that there're any solutions still using it, it's absolutely worst of breed and Rasmus Lerdorf would probably be the first to admit it. Of all the languages I've worked with, it's the only one that never felt like it had any redeeming features.

While I do appreciate its market value, I most certainly wouldn't recommend it for its learning curve, and I certainly wouldn't describe PHP developers as "versatile". I've worked with some pretty solid PHP programmers in my time, but versatility was never an attribute I'd ascribe to them. ..

Of all the other languages in general use, PHP is an outlier, and for beginners I'd recommend avoiding unless you have a legitimate reason to work with it.
