I feel that as western society has progressed to where geeky pursuits have gone mainstream, the comic/anime/gaming worlds which traditionally revolved around low status outcasts trying to assert dominance are slowly but surely being taken over by those of us who are enthusiastic and engaged fans but no longer "hardcore"; we're just people, now, and developing an identity around how much of a nerd one can be is no longer serving anyone.

In addition to the other general toxicities that western civilization has been slowly beginning to let go of since the advent of the internet, I'm really hoping we start seeing a trend where people stop with this nonsense competitive attitude of being the best at only one thing, only focusing on and honing one facet of their identity and existence... one can be a fan/participant without sacrificing decency, health, hygiene, athleticism, etc.
