I don't know where you're getting your information, but "that calculation that one dead Hamas soldier is worth dozens of dead civilians" isn't how we operate - we don't do "math" like that. Our math is much simpler - and I can confirm this from personal experience, having served quite a few years in the military - we consider protecting our own more important than protecting theirs, but we consider all life sacred and will do everything we *reasonably* can to avoid civilian casualities while achieving our goals, which are no more and no less than the security of our people (Jews and non-Jews alike).
We welcome all armchair activists to share their techniques and strategies for doing better., everyone clearly has more experience and insight into these things than we do.
I started reading through your linked article, started compiling a list of concerns with your cherry picking Bennet's tweet to make a case for an overall strategy of collective punishment, but then I got further down to a point where I realized that you apparently believe Hamas to be interested in Palestinian freedom, and where you twisted Netanyahu (who I detest, by the way) calling Hamas Amalekh to be somehow racist. Then I looked again at your choice of words "and might exaggerate the death tolls or casualty reports", and that was when I felt that sinking feeling that we're approaching (or have already approached) that awful point where facts don't matter, where you've already made up your mind, that any further data will only beckfire because you've staked your beliefs / writing / reputation on your position.
I would hope that you could disabuse me of that notion - in other words, I'm open to being wrong about you - did you give either of those links in my initial response a listen? What are your thoughts on them and what they've said? Because I can promise you one thing: while we don't have all the answers for how things are going to play out after we clear Hamas out of Gaza, we are confident that the regular Palestinians' chances for survivial and quality of life are going to be dramatically improved. And that's because Hamas has caused more harm to Gazans, physically and psychologically, than Israel ever could.
