I warmly recommend taking a look at Jane McGonigal's book, Reality is Broken, which does a fantastic job of breaking down what people are sorely lacking these days

They most certainly cannot. While I'm a huge fan of the idea of a metaverse, I cannot see how it being run by any one organization could be a good thing, *especially* if that organization is as demonstrably willing to put profits ahead of the public good.
