A few years ago I read about how willpower has been shown to be a finite resource*, and it got be me thinking about my strategies for Getting Stuff Done. I subsequently discovered a pretty useful hack - whenever I have tasks that I don't want to do, that would normally have me procrastinating, I reward myself *before* getting into it. Not by doing something mindless and unsatisfying, like watching youtube videos, but by doing something constructive that actually makes me feel good (such as going for a walk, organizing my desk, doing something social or playing through a level of a not-casual videogame). Obviously this is something that won't necessarily help everybody, but personally I've found it to be a very effective technique!

* technically, that turned out to be misinformation: https://www.thecut.com/2016/03/psychologys-favorite-theory-about-willpower-may-be-totally-wrong.html
